What Is a Fire Rated Security Door?

A fire rated security door is a specialist door that does two important jobs at once. It slows the spread of fire and smoke, and it keeps your building protected against forced entry. Most doors only do one or the other. At Quality Steel Doors, our steel security doors are available in FD60, FD120, and FD240 ratings, giving commercial properties in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and across the UK a certified solution at every level of fire resistance. Each door is built to deliver both fire protection and physical security in one robust assembly, making them a smart choice for any business that needs to meet fire safety regulations without sacrificing strength.

Fire Resistance Ratings Explained

The FD number on a fire door tells you exactly how many minutes that door has been tested and certified to hold back fire and smoke. Quality Steel Doors offers three ratings to cover a wide range of commercial applications. FD60 provides 60 minutes of fire resistance, suited to lower-risk compartments and internal separations. FD120 provides 120 minutes, making it one of the most popular choices for commercial exit routes and high-traffic areas. FD240 offers the highest level of protection at 240 minutes, or four full hours, and is available as a custom-made single or double door.

Suitable for Internal and External Use

One of the key strengths of this security fire exit door is its flexibility. It can be installed as an internal fire door between compartments inside a building, or as an external door facing the elements. The galvanised steel construction resists rust and corrosion, making it well suited to exterior positions. The intumescent seal around the frame expands when exposed to heat, sealing the gaps around the door and stopping smoke from passing through. This is a critical feature for both internal fire doors and external fire doors used on commercial sites.
